In Barcelona, the Infrastructures Director Plan of 2009-2018 foresees to invest more than 25,200 million euro to help improve public transportation in the metropolitan area. The new mode of transport includes the connection of the trolley by the Diagonal and the construction of a railway line. Secretary for the Mobility of the Generalitat, Manel Nadal, has indicated that this investment includes more than the 4,000 million predicted in the Plan of Neighborhood.
The Authority of the Metropolitan Transportation (ATM) has finalized the editing of PDI 2009-2018. This allows for continuity through the period of 2001-2010 and includes the environmental considerations that have been taken into account before it can be approved. This new plan is predicated to improve the public transportation system of Barcelona, including the Metro, trolley, and other transportation systems. Nadan's plan includes the construction 270 new stations, 379 new trains, permitting service to 1.4 million passengers more each day.
